Simon Cowell puts love life in back seat

When Simon Cowell claimed he “wasn’t sure” if he was still engaged to his stunning fiancée, Mezhgan Hussainy, rumors ran rampant that the pair had parted ways. And his right-hand man, public relations pro Max Clifford, added fuel to the fire by declaring that the TV mogul wouldn’t tie the knot for 20 years.
But now Simon is setting the record straight, admitting marriage has taken a back seat to his career. “I’m not going to lie — everything this year has been about working on The X Factor,” Simon tells Star exclusively. “It has probably been the busiest year I’ve ever had.”
And while Simon, 52, is infamous for his harsh words on the small screen, he is rather reticent when it comes to his love life. “I’m embarrassed to talk about that stuff,” he says. “Making the choice to get married is something you just have to decide when the time is right.”
But there’s one woman he doesn’t hesitate to dish about — his former American Idol foe, Paula Abdul. Now that they’re joining forces again on The X Factor judging panel, Simon promises lots of tears and laughter. “I have the biggest Kleenex bill on any reality show in history,” he quips. But he says seriously, “This is the show that has always been my baby. I’m excited for people to see it.”
